Everything You Need to Do
So, you’ve failed your driving test. It’s not a great feeling, but it’s really important to remember that you aren’t alone. Lots of people fail their test and go on to not just pass, but become safe and confident drivers. To do that, though, you need to move on from failing and get back in the driver’s seat. Here’s how, with the help of your Ipswich driving instructor, you can bounce back and get ready to take another test.
Try to be positive
We know that this is easier said than done, but do try to look at the positive side of failing your test. Something went wrong that showed the examiner that you aren’t ready to be on the road unsupervised yet, so take that as a great chance to learn! Some people like to think of a practice run that didn’t go quite to plan, and that’s a great way of remaining positive. Whether it was nerves or a silly mistake that let you down, you can build on it.
Don’t delay your next lesson
It’s really easy to cancel your next lesson or avoid your driving instructor altogether after failing a test. You might feel embarrassed, worried that they will be disappointed in you, or just plain scared and disillusioned. It’s really important to remember that your driving instructor has seen it all before and won’t be shocked by any emotions you are dealing with after failing. Most importantly, they won’t be angry at you!
Look at the feedback
Getting back into the car is the most important thing to do after failing your driving test, and looking at the feedback from your examiner comes a close second. You will have been told why you failed your test and provided with feedback. It makes such a difference to refer back to this when you start your lessons again, as you will be able to directly focus on the things that led to you failing and build on them.
Plan your next steps
Once you are back into a routine with your lessons, it’s time to start planning ahead. Talk to your driving instructor about taking your test again. They’ll be able to tell you if you are ready or if you would benefit from a little more time. There can be quite long waits for practical driving tests right now, so it’s important to act as quickly as possible if you and your instructor feel that you are ready to take yours again.
Don’t give up!
Lots of people feel like giving up when they fail their driving test, but just think of how far you have come during your lessons! With your instructor by your side, there is no reason why you can’t work on certain aspects of your driving and then come back stronger for another attempt. So what are you waiting for?
